The story: my daughter can be very anxious - she has a busy brain and occasionally it piles on top of her & she gets overwhelmed. I wish I could take her pain away, but.. alas, this is her journey. When she gets anxious, I will often say to her: “what is the truth and what is the lie”.
I find when she calls out what is true, she can then see that the lie is not a real thing, coupling that with some calming techniques - I can generally help her come back to her body and the present to think logically and come back down from the panic.
Recently, she was not with me & experiencing some anxiety. She called me, we chatted & she was okay - but feeling quite overwhelmed. My instinct was to drop everything to rescue her, but… she also told me she wanted to continue with the experience, to push through but that she was feeling overwhelmed and scared.
We talked through the feelings extensively, eventually I managed to calm her down & sent her off with a plan that included food and rest.
After I spoke with her, I felt so deeply for her, I knew she was growing in resilience, I knew she was safe, SHE knew she was safe, but I wished I could hug her and give her more.
I sat down, wrote this and sent it to her. It starts with “the truth is” because that’s what we find helps - focusing on what’s true.
I’m not sure if it helped her, perhaps it did because after that, she settled and ended up enjoying the experience and came home very proud of herself.
I find the balance of “pushing through” with my kids so tricky, when to push and when to remove them from the situation is such a fine line - one I’m constantly learning about.
This time, I made the right choice, but in the past.. I’ve not & I forgive myself because I’m learning too.

I was very disappointed in the quality of these prints. For $66 a print, I expected AT MINIMUM, nicer cardstock paper for the prints. Not flimsy Photo Print paper. I will not be purchasing anything else from this site. I don't normally post reviews but these were INCREDIBLY disappointing.
